Frontier has supplied F/A-18 Super Hornets and E/A-18 Growlers with cockpit avionics since 1995. FES has developed three generations of Engine Fuel Displays (EFDs) and is the only display manufacturer with equipment still in the Super Hornet cockpit. FES is responsible for the full spectrum of life-cycle support of the equipment, including all electrical, mechanical, and software engineering; qualification to fighter aircraft environmental standards; development of special test equipment; production; and depot maintenance.
In addition, FES provides build-to-print manufacturing services for prime aircraft contractors. Recent projects have been for weapons release assemblies, test program sets, and ground support equipment. Equipment manufactured by FES is supporting B-1B, B-52, E-4B, F-15, F-16, F/A-18, KC-135, T-38, V-22, and other aircraft.
FES also supplies engineering and integration support for single and dual string closed loop simulation automated test equipment for the RQ-4 Global Hawk and MQ-4C Triton unmanned aerial systems.
The Multi-Purpose Display Platform (MDP) was designed under internal funding to provide an affordable, yet highly adaptable display platform that is capable of fulfilling a wide variety of display applications. Its low power consumption and minimal cooling requirements allow it to be mounted in cockpit locations that would not be suitable for most display hardware packages. Its powerful processor and efficient power supply provide the display and video performance required in modern cockpits while maintaining compliance with EMI/EMC and power quality requirements. Built-in “hooks,” both software and hardware, allow easy and affordable customization to add functionality or change the display size.
The Engine Fuel Display (EFD), in production and flying in the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and its variants for more than fifteen years, is a prime example of our commitment to excellence in avionics design and manufacturing. We led the successful engineering and manufacturing development effort, and have delivered well over 1000 units since the start of production. Through the rigorous application of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles, we have reduced our sell price for the EFD by over 65% with no impact to quality or reliability.
