In 1973, Peggy and Ed Shreve launched an engineering company called Frontier Engineering, Inc. Dr. Ed Shreve was a professor of Electrical Engineering at Oklahoma State University, and Mrs. Shreve worked in the biochemistry department at the university. A part-time endeavor, Frontier provided consulting support for technology companies, and they also designed and built specialized electronic instrumentation. Recognizing the potential for business growth, the company owners began full-time operations in the fall of 1981. From the original four employees, Frontier experienced rapid growth to over 500 employees in 13 locations by 1990. The Founders’ vision of a company that excelled at design, prototype development, manufacturing of high technology electronics, and providing technology-based engineering services became a reality.
In 1990, the company purchased their current facility in Stillwater, Oklahoma, which serves as our Corporate Headquarters. The 86,000 square foot engineering and manufacturing facility accommodates the leading edge R & D, Engineering, and Manufacturing technologies employed to build unique and high-reliability solutions to meet and exceed our customers’ needs and requirements.
In 1997, Frontier Engineering, Inc. restructured its organization to intensify market focus and maximize core business strengths. After spinning off its services operations, the core business was renamed Frontier Electronic Systems Corp. (FES) and continues to focus on the engineering design, development, and manufacture of sophisticated electronic equipment for the Aerospace and Defense industries.
Founded as a family business, FES has transitioned to second-generation leadership. Dr. Brenda Rolls, the Shreve’s daughter, took the helm as President and CEO in January of 2008. FES has revitalized its focus on technology development and strives to excel in its chosen target markets. A graduate of the 8(a) program in 1993, FES is a Woman Owned, Native American Owned small business with a tremendous success story. The legacy that began with Ed and Peggy Shreve continues to evolve while creating a positive impact for the local community and significant technological support for our national and international customer base.
